Charly Cheverie, Principal’s Award Recipient at The 2021 Honors Art Exhibition

Last year, Charly Cheverie, a senior at Hopkinton High School won the Principal’s Award at the 2021 Honors Art Exhibition.

Cheverie created three compositions using water glasses and other colorful objects such as fruits and flowers. She experimented with fast shutter speeds to capture moments in time.

“It definitely pushed me out of my comfort zone with the type of photography I tend to do, but this helped me branch out a ton more with my photography experiences,” Chevrie said.

Chevrie has been exploring photography for many years. She has taken several courses in school and previously worked for a film photography company developing pictures.

However, this project was definitely a new direction for her.

“The best part of this project was definitely experimenting outside of my comfort zone and learning new things”, Cheverie explains.

She had some challenges coming up with this unique composition, however, her inspiration from past still life photography guided her. “My inspiration was various kinds of still life photography”.

“The biggest challenge was coming up with the perfect composition, and what kinds of still life looked the best in motion, which I was trying to capture”.

This project pushed Cheverie out of her comfort zone and will hopefully inspire future projects.

“I really love how my photos came out, and I’m proud of myself for working hard to achieve those pictures, the best part of this project was definitely experimenting outside of my comfort zone and learning new things”, Cheverie reminisced.

After the project was finished, she took her photos to the 2021 Honors Art Exhibition where she won the Principal’s Award.

Cheverie was both surprised and honored, “receiving the award felt amazing… I’m glad I got the opportunity to do such a fun project and that others appreciated my work.”
