Sophomore Annabelle Liu won a gold medal Scholastic Award; her second medal in the category of drawing and illustration.
While she has always had a passion for art, her recognitions have started pouring in recently.
“I was always into [art] since I was a child, but I remember it maybe started at four. It’s just fun,” Annabella Liu said.
While winning international merit is certainly an exciting achievement, Liu also won the Marginal art contest last year.
Her work is the cover of the recent publication.
She maintains that the work is her favorite drawing.

Liu feels art is an important part of her life, as well as others’, and hopes to spread that idea to anyone who is open-minded and interested in it.
“It’s a creative outlet for me. And people can interpret art differently based on their perspectives. So, it’s unique to everyone,” Liu said.
While the finished art might seem effortless, the process Liu undergoes to prepare for a piece is extensive. She spends a lot of time researching and planning to ensure the art comes out best.
“I look at photos for inspiration, and do digital sketches, and plan it out. [I look] at other people’s art or old photos.”
Although art runs deep in her academic career as a high school student, Liu is unsure if it is a path she wants to pursue in the future.
“Maybe in college I’ll do some small art classes, but I’m not going to major in it,” Liu said.
