On Tuesday, May 3rd, girls varsity tennis defeated Holliston 5-0, improving their overall record to 7-1 and their Tri-Valley League record to 6-1.
At number 1 singles, sophomore Denny Lamachia wasted no time defeating Holliston’s Kirsten Ydoate; the score of both her matches was 6-0.  She said, “Today, I focused on minimizing my errors. The wind was a big challenge. I adjusted by moving my feet more and putting more spin onto the ball when I was hitting with the wind.”
Juniors Emma McWilliams and Maddie Schneider beat their opponents at second and third singles, with scores of 6-1, 6-3 and 6-1, 6-2.  The Hillers’ doubles teams played very consistent against their opponents as well;  juniors Abby Normandeau and Bevy Reynolds won first doubles (6-2, 6-0), and  Senior Tri-captain Jessie Hibel and junior Katy Cook finished up the match and won at second doubles (6-1,6-2).  “We did well at net, but we should have kept the ball away from Holliston’s net person more,†commented Hibel.
After the game, Coach Normandeau stated, “I am very impressed by the progress I have seen this season with all our players. They are improving with every match. Throughout the season, every player has become more mentally tough. Sometimes, I think that the game of tennis is sixty percent mental game and forty percent shots.  You need to believe that you will win.”
The girls’ next game is Thursday, May 5th at 3:45 in Medfield.
