The Hopkinton Hiller varsity boys basketball team came out on top at an away game against Ashland on Friday, January 14th.  The Hillers beat Ashland 58-55 and improved their TVL record to 7-1.  Both teams fought hard for the lead throughout the game.  The Clockers missed a three pointer in the last five seconds of the game, costing them a possible tie.  “We were able to come out with the win, and I’m really glad we did,” stated senior captain Will Relle after the game.

HHS senior Jake Doucette led the game for scoring with 19 points.  “Doucette is a key player in our lineup,” said senior guard Brendan Litavis, “he always seems to be able to sink his shots no matter where he is”.

Hopkinton led Ashland 29-28 at halftime but only scored 11 points in the third quarter while Ashland scored 17, leading Hopkinton by 2 points with one quarter to go.  The Hillers stepped it up in the final quarter; HHS junior Jason Dlugolecki stood out with 5 points while HHS junior Barrett Hanlon stood out with 4.  The Hillers defeated Ashland by a mere 3 points.

With Hopkinton’s season almost halfway over, the Hillers will need to continue to play strong if they want a shot at the TVL title.  The Hillers’ next game is Monday, January 17th in Dover-Sherborn.
