As the boys varsity golf season comes to a close, the Hillers are finishing off their season with a 7-6 record having faced tough competition during a compact schedule.
The team navigated the tightly-packed matches, with significant wins against the likes of Ashland, Dedham, and Millis.
Head coach Bill Phaneuf emphasized the adversity the team faced playing a short regular season with multiple quick turnarounds between matches.
The scheduling challenges meant there was little time to assess and reflect before the next round of competitive play.

One week in mid-September, the team played three matches in three consecutive days.
Managing the match schedule and still making time for practice proved an ongoing test for the boys.
Still, the coach believes the team met these challenges on several occasions.
“We try to occasionally have a practice off-site somewhere, but that becomes challenging with cars and timing,” coach Phaneuf said.
Coach Phaneuf added the team’s schedule looked different every week, creating a host of logistical challenges.
Despite these challenges, he came into the season with high hopes for the talented Hiller team.
“Our goal every year is to try and reach the state tournament,” said coach Phaneuf.
“I talk to the players a lot about trying not to focus too much on results and goals, and trying to focus on the process of getting better.”
Coach Phaneuf is in his sixth year coaching the boys golf team, and his efforts to expand the golf program are evident. He started the girls golf program, which takes place during the spring season.
Though the boys’ season is coming to an end, coach Phaneuf will be back when the the girls season starts, looking to lead another group of golfers through a process of getting better.
