Last Friday, October fourth, the varsity football team lost to St. Johns 35-7. Students and the crowd were disappointed.
The private school from Shrewsbury traditionally has a strong football program.
Head coach Mark Sanborn said they have size advantages at all positions and are well coached but hoped that the Hillers could match St. Johns’ physicality and discipline.

“They have some dynamic skill players, especially on offense at the quarterback and wide receiver positions,” Sanborn said.
Prior to the game, the Hillers experienced several injuries in key positions.
“Our depth is very thin at the moment,” Sanborn said.
Still, the coach was pleased with the preparations going into the game.
During the game, Lucas Reed strained a shoulder muscle and Ryan Morin was taken out of the game with an injury.
“That affected us, because he’s a good player” wide receiver and safety Lucas Reed said, referring to Morin being taken out of the game.
Reed said one of the biggest challenges he faced included staying calm and focused on the game.

Sophomore spectator James Baker was disappointed with the game, saying St. Johns is even stronger than last year.
Despite the injuries and strong showing from St. John’s, the Hillers maintained a strong spirit throughout the game.
Band Members Mack Robledo, Keith Charlton and Colin Bartley enjoyed contributing to the group atmosphere as well as receiving applause
Jonas Merkt anticipates “a lot of defensive drills and less tactics,” in the upcoming week.
“Next game, hopefully, we can come in with a good mindset to win the game.” Reed said.
