“I lived in Martinique, which is a French island in the Caribbean, from 2003 to 2005, and it was an incredible experience--the nicest people I’ve ever met in my life. I was a teaching assistant in a middle school and a high school the first year I was there and in a university, I taught English conversation classes. I had majored in French in college. I didn’t do junior year abroad, so I thought this was a good opportunity to travel overseas and improve my French. I got the job through the French embassy in Washington D.C. and you have to pick regions of France and I put Martinique as my first choice and I got Martinique.”
