Project Just Because (PJB) is a local nonprofit organization that steps in to support families during their most challenging times, providing essentials such as food, warm clothing, and school supplies.
Co-founder Charan Vijay shares his inspiration behind the club’s creation. Vijay was previously volunteering at PJB and was very passionate about it. He had an idea to start a different club, but it didn’t work out sadly.
“So, Bableen and I had the idea of creating a PJB club and wanted to center funding around special events because we saw how much PJB was struggling with getting cash and actual money,” Vijay said.
Participants in PJB frequently acquire insights into funding tactics and innovative approaches, while also cultivating a deeper comprehension of the struggles many individuals undergo.
“Although it was arduous, we had finally gotten the club approved after around two months of waiting, and it was off!” he said.
This club is engaged in a multitude of activities and has an extensive array of future objectives. Co-founder Bableen Gill provides insight into the club’s origins and reveals some of their current ambitions.
“We turned this club into more of an event-planning club because that was what Charan and I were told they needed more help with. One of the major events every year is the spring auction we hold. That’s kind of where we started. Our goal is to get as much money as possible and donate to the organization, especially since they moved into a new warehouse. They are consistently in need of more monetary donations” Gill said.
Later, Vijay explains another goal the club strives to achieve.
“An important, but secondary goal for the club is to raise awareness of the organization. Even though many students volunteer there, it’s not as well known. Since we have this club, we can truly centralize all of it, and give students an opportunity to students to get community service hours inside of school” Vijay said.
This year, they are aiming to earn around $7,000 and require more volunteers and participation in the club.
For those interested in participating, the club holds meetings in room A301 on Friday afternoons from 2:30 to 3:15 PM. These sessions are overseen by Ms. Wetterlow.
“We started this club not only to help PJB but to create a ripple effect of kindness in our school and beyond,” Gill said.
